Here’s a list of things I believe. At the moment.

By ‘believe’ I mean just that. I have only inconclusive evidence. Or, in other words, it’s a list of things I want to write about and ideas I’m playing with.

I’m not blind to the fact that this page may as well be titled ‘Things I Want to Believe’.

It’s a list of things which I’ll add to as we go.

1. Contact with digital technology is an inflection point. People who’ve come in contact with digital worlds are different from people who haven’t. The term ‘digital natives’ is hugely unpopular. And the people who write about ‘digital natives’ have been mostly (a) idiots or (b) by-the-numbers marketers or (c) both. So my term for this, at the moment, the Neo-Bourgeois Diaspora. Or NeBoDia and NeBoDians. NB the idea of age/generations here is utterly irrelevant. And the term ‘digital’ is only useful in the sense ‘iron’ is useful to describe the ‘Iron Age’. // TAG: nebodia

2. The Nebodians are different from previous generations in many ways, some trivial and some fundamental. One of the fundamental differences is in the way they work with spatial concepts. // See Nicaraguan Sign Language for some evidence of how language affects thought. Consenting to Hallucinate II addresses the potential for spatial metaphors to be updated. The key idea for me here is that the post-digital societies will be able to manipulate topologies without the difficulties we currently have. // TAG: topology

3. ‘Post-digital’ is a useful working term for what will come next. though some people hate it. These people are often the type of people who hang around with other people who spend all their time talking about ‘post-digital’ stuff and, thus, they’re a bit bored by it. I don’t spend very much time hanging around with these type of people so I kind of find it quite interesting still. I’m so provincial. Anyhoo.

Here’s a start: What are the key sentences in the evolution of the web? Two early candidates are, we are reintroducing wizardly fiat and and ‘their trails shall remain’. I might have misquoted both of those. // TAG: post-digital
